The Improper City
"The Improper City" is a kaleidoscope of cityscapes and landscapes. It embodies intricate architectual elements that are juxtaposed and intertwined within an imaginary vista of landscapes. The viewer is captivated by the diversity of mediums, images, and designs.

Sonia's use of watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, and even fragments of her own lithographic backdrops enable her to create imaginary, yet tangible, environments through elaborate images. On closer examination, "The Improper City" becomes three-dimensional as the artist incorporates her own art puzzles as pieces, cutting them, painting on them, and varnishing them to complete the work. Its contents are numerous, ranging from buildings, columns, doors, windows, roadways, walls, rooftops and Gardens.

This "Koumelange" is a mosaic of art and design unfolding on multiple layers, imposing whimsical overtures. "The Improper City" invites the viewer to closely and constantly meander its space, examining its properties and becoming captivated by Sonia's technique.
